Alex Dernie ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how Padel Pointer, including the iOS and watchOS applications (the "App") and Padel Pointer Studio (the "Studio Service"), collects, uses, and safeguards your data.
This policy applies when you use the App, the Studio Service, or connect the two services.
1. Who We Are (Data Controller)
The data controller responsible for your personal data is:
Alex Dernie
United Kingdom
Email: support@padelpointer.com
2. Information We Collect
We collect minimal data necessary to provide and improve the App.
A. Data You Provide
- Match Data: Scores, dates, venue names, and match results you enter.
- Preferences: App settings (e.g., scoring modes).
- Studio Account Data: If you create a Studio account, we collect your email address, account identifier, password hash, verification status, account tier, and account timestamps.
- Studio Content: Match data you choose to import into Studio, linked-device information, template settings, overlay requests, and generated overlay packages.
B. Data Collected Automatically
- App Analytics: We use PostHog to understand how the App is used (e.g., which screens are viewed and button taps). This data is pseudonymous by default and is associated with app-scoped identifiers rather than a name or email address.
- Studio Analytics: When you sign in to Studio, we associate Studio website activity with your Studio account identifier and email address so we can understand account activity, troubleshoot failures, provide support, and improve the Studio Service.
- Connected App Identity: When you explicitly connect the App to Studio, we store the App's existing pseudonymous PostHog identifier, app user identifier, and RevenueCat customer identifier on the linked-device record. This lets us correlate the Studio account with the relevant App analytics and subscription record for troubleshooting and support. The connected App may also send us a coarse App subscription status and plan category (for example, Free, Monthly, Yearly, or Lifetime) and associate that context with the identified Studio analytics profile. We do not copy prices, transaction identifiers, or payment details into Studio analytics. We keep the App and Studio as separate PostHog profiles rather than merging their identities.
- Session Replay: To debug issues and improve user experience, we may record pseudonymous interactions outside Studio (e.g., taps and scrolls). Sensitive text inputs are masked. Session replay is disabled within the authenticated Studio Service.
- Device Information: Model, iOS version, carrier, and general location (derived from IP address, which is discarded after processing).
- First-Party Campaign Attribution: If you install the App from one of our Apple Search Ads campaigns, Apple and RevenueCat may provide campaign attribution metadata such as campaign, ad group, keyword, or related identifiers so we can measure the effectiveness of our own ads.
- Messaging Identifiers & Push Subscription Data: We use OneSignal to register your device for push notifications and in-app messages. This may include an anonymous app-scoped identifier (
app_user_id), a OneSignal user ID, push subscription identifiers, push token, app version, language, timezone, and notification delivery/interaction data.
C. Health Data (Apple Watch Only)
If you use the Padel Pointer Watch App and grant permission, we collect workout data via Apple HealthKit:
- Active energy burned (calories)
- Heart rate
- Distance walking/running
- Step count
We do NOT use health data for advertising, marketing, or use by data mining companies. This data is used solely to display your workout summary for each match.
D. Purchase Data
We use RevenueCat to manage subscriptions. RevenueCat collects an anonymous app user ID and purchase history (e.g., "Monthly Subscription started"). When available, RevenueCat may also receive Apple Search Ads attribution metadata from Apple so we can measure our own campaign performance. We do not have access to your credit card or billing details, which are handled securely by Apple.
3. How We Use Your Data
- To Provide Service: syncing match scores via iCloud, tracking your stats.
- To Operate Studio: authenticating accounts, connecting devices, importing selected match data, saving templates, generating overlays, and delivering exports.
- To Improve the App: analysing usage trends to fix bugs and build better features.
- To Troubleshoot and Provide Support: correlating a Studio account with its linked device, application version, relevant App analytics profile, and Studio activity when investigating a problem.
- To Measure Our Own Apple Search Ads Campaigns: understanding which campaigns and keywords lead to trials and subscriptions.
- To Manage Subscriptions: verifying your active "Padel Pointer Pro" status.
- To Send Messages You Ask Us To Send: delivering match breakdown notifications, useful feature announcements, and light reminders if you enable notifications.
4. How We Store Your Data
- On-Device & iCloud: Match data in the App is stored locally on your device and synced to your private iCloud account via Apple CloudKit. We do not have access to that App data unless you choose to import selected matches into Studio.
- Studio Infrastructure: Studio account records, linked-device identifiers, imported match data, templates, and generation records are processed by our backend and stored in our managed Neon PostgreSQL database. Generated overlay packages may be stored in Google Cloud Storage for delivery.
- Analytics Storage: App analytics and identified Studio analytics are stored on PostHog servers in the European Union (EU).
- Messaging Storage: Push registration and message-delivery data processed through OneSignal is hosted in Europe and may be accessed in the United States and other countries where OneSignal or its service providers operate.
5. Sharing Your Data
We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with trusted service providers necessary to run the App and Studio Service:
| Service Provider | Purpose | Location |
|---|
| PostHog | App analytics, identified Studio analytics, and session replay outside Studio | EU (Frankfurt) |
| Neon | Studio account database, linked devices, imported matches, and templates | Managed cloud infrastructure |
| Google Cloud | Studio backend processing and generated overlay package delivery | UK (London) / Google Cloud infrastructure |
| RevenueCat | Subscription Management and Apple Search Ads campaign measurement | USA |
| OneSignal | Push Notifications & In-App Messages | Europe / accessed from USA |
| Apple (iCloud) | Data Sync | Global |
International Transfers: Some data is processed outside the UK/EU, including subscription data through RevenueCat in the United States and messaging-related data through OneSignal, which is hosted in Europe and may be accessed in the United States. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, such as Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) and equivalent transfer mechanisms, to protect your data in accordance with UK and EU data protection laws.
This phase of Apple Search Ads measurement does not add an App Tracking Transparency prompt and is not intended to perform cross-app tracking.
6. Your Rights
Under the UK GDPR, you have the right to:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Deletion: Delete matches directly within the App, delete imported matches within Studio, or permanently delete your Studio account from Studio account settings. You can also ask us to delete the associated PostHog analytics profile by contacting us.
- Withdraw Consent: You can revoke HealthKit permissions in your iPhone Settings > Health > Data Access & Devices > Padel Pointer.
- Portability: You can export your match history via the "Export Data" feature in the App settings.
To exercise these rights, email us at support@padelpointer.com.
7. Data Retention
- Match Data: Retained on your device/iCloud until you delete it. Deleted matches are kept in a "Recently Deleted" folder for 30 days before permanent removal.
- Analytics Data: Retained indefinitely to allow us to analyze long-term app trends.
8. Children's Privacy
The App is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If we become aware that a child has provided us with personal data, we will take steps to delete it.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page.
